A Stone in the Sea by AL Jackson

He wanted nothing at all…

Until he found she had everything to give…

Sunder lead singer and guitarist Sebastian Stone has everything—fans, fame, and fortune. He also has a heart full of bitterness and a reputation for a short-fused temper. But an outward reputation rarely reveals the true man inside. Facing assault charges after trying to protect his younger brother, Sebastian is sent to Savannah, Georgia to lie low until the dust settles in L.A.

Shea Bentley is beautiful, kind, and hiding from the very lifestyle Sebastian has always embraced.

When the mysterious, tattooed stranger begins hanging out at the bar where she works, Shea is quick to recognize he is nothing but trouble, but she's helpless to the way her body lights up every time his intense gray eyes tangle with hers.

They both soon find themselves drowning in a sea of desire and passion that won’t let them up for air.

Sebastian knows firsthand secrets never die, and he’s not the only one who’s hiding them.

Loving someone always comes with a price. But will it be Shea’s past that costs them everything?

Lori's 6+ star review

5 Stars isn't even high enough for this book. I think this is my favorite of AL Jackson's even though I really do love Christian and Elizabeth's story, Baz just sunk into my soul.

OMG!!! My heart is breaking into a million pieces right now! Um, never expected that ending!
From the beginning of the book, I fell in love with both Sebastian and Shea. I always love duo POV's. It makes the story feel that much more in depth and getting to see from both sets of eyes, and hearts. This one was so heart feeling, especially from Baz's POV, because I could tell that no matter how much shit he had been through his life, you could still feel all the love he had for Shea even if he didn't know it himself. And Shea, you could see how much she want d not to fall in love with Baz because of all the bad that had been in her life. But she wanted to live again. And when Baz walked into Charlie's bar that first night, that is what both of them "saw". Not with their eyes but with their hearts and souls.
And still my heart is breaking from the ending. When oh when will book two be out?

Being Nobody by Heather D 'Agostino

Samantha Connelly has been on the run since she was seven years old. Forced into Witness Protection after her father saw something he shouldn’t has caused her to learn to blend in. She’s moved, changed her name, and her appearance more times than she can count over the last nineteen years all along wondering if it will ever end. Her handler, Kevin, along with her parents have assured her that it won’t be forever, but as the years tick by she’s slowly given up hope that she’ll ever be normal.

Now at 26, Sam has moved to Chicago and is working at the Rusty Nail as a bartender calling herself Mallory. Her father passed away two years before leaving her to finish what he started…put away the ‘bad guys’. Living on the run in hiding has been harder than she ever imagined, and finding love has always been out of the question. Who would want to be with someone they couldn’t be honest with? She’s resigned herself to being alone, until… Brian walks in.

Brian Sellers is everything Sam has been trying to avoid her entire life. He’s clad in leather and torn jeans, donning several tattoos… all-in-all a bad boy. When their eyes connect one evening, everything she’s ever told herself falls to the wayside as an indescribable draw pulls her to him. He’s sexy and domineering, and something about him reminds her of a boy she used to know.

The more time she spends with Brian, the more she wants him, but…Brian is not everything he seems to be. When Sam happens to see the tat on his wrist, the same tat that her father saw all those years ago, she realizes she’s flirting with the enemy. Brian has no idea that he’s hanging out with the one girl his boss wants dead.

Can Sam hide her identity from the first man she’s had real feelings for? What will Brian do when he finds out who she really is? Can love really conquer all?

Being Nobody is the first book in The Witness series.

Lori's 5 star review

First of all, thank you for this ARC and allowing me to read and review it. This is the second series of Heather's I've had the honor of reviewing and it is just as amazing as the others. What a life to have to live for almost your whole life, being on the run in protective custody, Not being able to make friends, make a place to really call home because of never knowing when you would be found and have to run again. There's so much fear and sadness in Sam/Mallory. But when she meets a guy in the bar that she works at one night, she begins to hope for a normal life, one that includes a family and one place to live. Brian just might be him, or so she hopes. Lots of hot sex anyway!
Too much more and I'll leave a spoiler and that's a no no for me, so go grab
Being Nobody (witness #1) and read it for yourself

Every Breath you take by Blair Babylon

Brand-new New Adult Rock Star Romance
from USA Today-Bestselling Author Blair Babylon!
What happens when a Rock Star in Disguise meets a Billionaire in hiding?
Georgie doesn’t know who she is dating.
At a high society wedding, Georgie Johnson is introduced to Alexandre de Valentinois, a hereditary duke of nothing who flies around the world on his private planes and describes himself as “one of those despicable, idle rich men.” Yet, when pressed, he sings at the wedding in a gorgeous, clear tenor that tugs at Georgie’s soul, and miraculously, he calms her paralyzing stage fright so she can accompany him on the piano, even though she thought she had left her classical music career behind when she went into hiding.
But Alexandre has a dark side. His name is Xan Valentine, and he’s the rock star front man for Killer Valentine. He’s famous, but his paparazzi-dogged lifestyle might expose Georgie and get her killed.

Excerpt:
In the elevator, Georgie stood against the back wall while Alex slid a keycard into a slot above the buttons, backed away from her, and stared at the flickering floor display the whole time, which just about drove her insane until she saw the black dome embedded in the ceiling.
Okay, Georgie didn’t want to end up immortalized as a GIF entitled #GetARoom, either. She twirled her purse dangling from her wrist to pass the long, drawn-out, agonizing seconds while the elevator ascended, the increased velocity dragging at her feet.
Far up in the hotel, the elevator doors parted, and Alex seized her hand again and tugged her out of the elevator. Three doors led off the short hallway, and Georgie realized they were up in the suites.
Alex said, “It’s small. The hotel was sold out. Flicka and her wedding party booked the better suites months ago, so I was only able to get a deluxe.”
Georgie’s heart jumped in her chest, and her hands felt empty because she wasn’t touching him. “Just get us in there.”
His grin bore a touch of desperation as he flung open the door and pulled her inside after him.
Georgie caught a glimpse of a blue and white living room and a dining room with a table for six, and the scent of the white rose bundles filled the rooms as Alex pulled her though the suite. In the bedroom, golden silk draped the bed, and a breeze fluttered the white curtains over the window that was open to a view over the skyline of Paris. She tossed her purse on a nightstand.
Alex grabbed her arms, whirling her around, and he pushed her against the closed door and kissed her. The scent of sweet champagne flooded her mouth, and she breathed deeply. His forearms were braced against the door around her head, almost caging her as he bent to her. Georgie wound her arms around his neck, her fingers sliding into his long hair at the back of his neck. Alex groaned against her lips and reared back, then dipped his head to run his teeth over her neck. He shrugged his suit coat off behind himself, the dark blue fabric falling on the carpeting.
She dropped her hand, caressing his side through his shirt. Bulges of muscle rippled under her fingers. Even while his hot mouth blew champagne-scented breath on her neck, Georgie explored his body with her hands. She grabbed fistfuls of his shirt, pulling the fine cloth out of his waistband, and she ducked her hand under his shirt and soft undershirt beneath.
Ridges of muscle met her palm. He panted against her shoulder as she ran her palms and fingers into the furrows between his abdominals and up to the lean bulges of his pecs.
His hands smoothed over her hips, reaching for the zipper down her backside.
This felt tawdry, a quick fuck at a wedding with the guy she had performed a song with, and that was fantastic. Long-term relationships and even repeat sex weren’t on her agenda. Alex probably lived in Europe, and if they ever ran into each other again, they could be amicable and polite, and he would be just another guy that she used to fuck.
Perfect.

Lori's 4.5 stars

Read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I had a hard time getting into the book at first, even though this book can be read apart from the rest of the books in this "series", it was hard to understand where some of the beginning was coming from.  So I did some investigating on the other books and then it all fell into place.  After about 25% of the book, it finally clicked and by this afternoon, after starting it late last night, I finished it.  It's such a subtle romantic they are falling in love with one another, even though both Georgie and Alex have said they don't do love.  It is apparent that Alex will do anything in his power to protect Georgie and after the concert, she is willing to follow him wherever.  Cannot wait for book two to find out the rest of their story

Experience has taught single mother Rachel Madison that the only person she can truly rely on is herself. But what she wants most in the world—to give her son the life she never had growing up—means she must put her faith in a man who once walked out on her.

Retired from the service, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Colton Taylor makes a detour to Phoenix to bury his brother. Nobody is more surprised than he is to see Rachel waiting for him at the airport. He regrets the morning he walked away from her, but coming from an abusive home taught Colt to put limits on all his relationships—especially this one.

So when he discovers he has a son, Colt knows this is a chance to prove to himself he’s not a chip off the old block. Turning his life around doesn’t come naturally, though. Then a drug dealer crops up from his brother’s dark past, threatening their son and forcing Colt and Rachel to face their demons … and each other.

Excerpt #1

“How the hell could you not tell me I had a son?”

Rachel darted a panicked glance at the hallway behind her then narrowed her eyes.

“Keep your voice down. He doesn’t know. When and if I decide to tell him, it’ll be on my terms.” She drew up straight and angled her chin a bit higher, but he didn’t miss the hurt that flared in her eyes. “You left, Colt. Left without a word and never came back. Or did you forget that part?”

He folded his arms, firmly ignoring the regret that sank, hard and cold and heavy, in his stomach. If he acknowledged it, he’d have to face the very real possibility he’d become what he loathed, and he would not go there. Not now. “You still should have told me. Jake knows how to reach me. Rosa knows how to reach me. Hell, any army base in the United States could figure out where I was in case of emergency. I had a right to know I have a son.”

Rachel froze where she stood, her eyes wide and searching his. Several heartbeats later, she let out a heavy sigh, her shoulders rounding, and dropped her arms to her sides. “You’re right. It’s why I met you at the airport. I was wrong to keep him from you.”

The dejection in her tone cut him to the quick. Regret erupted in Rachel’s eyes, hitting his chest in a sucker punch. His anger slipped from his fingers as years of denial, of longing, rushed up on him. Damn his weak hide. One soft sigh from her and all his good intentions went up in a puff of smoke. If he was honest with himself, they always had.

Excerpt #2

“Maybe I do it to protect you. Did you ever think of that? I don’t do relationships, Rach. You’re better off finding someone who can give you what you need, because I’m not that man.”

That damn stony wall made her want to hit him just to see him react.

She clenched her fists. “Coward.”

Colt’s head jerked in her direction. His gaze seared into her as he studied her.

“I don’t need your protection.” She glared at him. “I’m perfectly capable of looking out for myself.”

He turned his body fully toward her and copied her stance, folding his arms across his chest. “All right. You really want to know what I’m thinking? Telling me you want me because our son needs his father wasn’t what I hoped you’d say. I wanted you to tell me you wanted me. But, I know damn well I have no right to want that, for exactly that reason … I walked out. And, for the record, I didn’t tell you all that stuff that night to scare you. I was being honest.”

His body heat radiated against her side as he closed the distance between them, stepping into her personal space then taking another step, until his scent of soap and man washed over her and his firm body brushed hers. His voice lowered to a husky murmur, his breath whispering across her cheek.

“More than I should have been. Those eyes of yours pull things out of my mouth I shouldn’t say. You’re my ultimate weakness, sweetheart.”

Lori's 5 Star review

When I first started it, I was having a tough time getting into it and focusing on what I was reading. I haven't read too many "shifter" books and though this book isn't purely a shifter book, some of the characters do posess animals of the Chinese Zodiac. But once I looked past that, and looked into the "love story" that was unraveling, I loved the story. Sheng and Lucy were destined to be together no matter what. I love Mei too and can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. This book does have a sort of cliffhanger, but nothing heart wrenching
