synopsis

Taylor Cook was the last thing Morgan McGregor expected to find when she stepped off the train at Cherryville station to spend the summer with her grandmother, Virginia. She didn’t know that the boy who befriended her would one day fill her heart with both joy and pain. First love can be magical. It can reach inside you and grip your heart with a force that you never see coming, and can’t deny. It’s powerful and sometimes debilitating, but most of all… it can break you in ways you never thought possible.

How do you recover when the one the person you thought would always be there, pushes you away at the time they’re needed the most? How do you move on with your life and forget the boy who stole your heart all those years ago? How do you go back to that place knowing that seeing him will cause your careful façade to crack into a million pieces? It’s simple you can’t, but sometimes you have to.

When Morgan gets the news that her grandmother’s passed away and she’s the heir to her estate, she hardens heart in preparation of going back to face him. What happens when she steps off that train again? Will the feelings she’s worked so hard to forget come rushing back and threaten to drown her? Will he even still be there?

Walking Among the Cherry Trees is the first book in The Cook Brothers Series.

Lori's 5+++++ star review:
It's short but sweet cuz everything I want to say about it will have a spoiler and I hate spoiling books

I love Heather's writing and this book has got to be one of my most favorites. This is one of those you never see it coming stories that hit you right in the heart. I'm not one to spoil a great book so all I will say is this book gave me such a book hangover that I may just pick it up again this week and read it again.

Resurrecting Phoenix by Isabel Lucero

Title: Resurrecting Phoenix
Author: Isabel Lucero
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: September 24, 2015

Anniversaries are usually occasions worth celebrating, but when your fourth wedding anniversary is also the first anniversary of your husband’s death, you’ll only want to drink your sorrows away. And that’s exactly what Phoenix Nightingale does.

In the small town of Breckshire Wyoming, everybody knows everybody, so when Evan Tyler walks into the same bar she’s drowning her grief in, Phoenix knows that he’s new in town. What she doesn’t know is that he’s just moved in a few houses down from her and is about to try his hardest to break through the wall she’s had up for a year.
Phoenix has experienced a tragedy that nobody ever wants to experience. In the year following her husband’s death, she’s had what her parent’s considered embarrassing public meltdowns, and lost some friends along with her career. Just as she feels she’s at her very lowest, Evan barges into her life, forcing her to get out of the house and look at life a little differently.
He vows to help her, encouraging her to rise from the ashes and live once again. Evan doesn’t know that just by being in her life, he’s bound to send her into a tailspin, because both of them are keeping things from each other, and Phoenix may not be strong enough to handle what she finds out.
Will she pull him into the dark with her, or will he be able to resurrect Phoenix, freeing her from the depths of her depression, and show her that surviving isn’t the same as living?

“It looks like you have freckles,” Evan says, touching a dot of paint on my face.  I give him a small smile and take a step back. He runs his hand through his hair, pushing the longer pieces back into place. I laugh when he looks back at me.  “You have a large dollop of paint on your forehead,” I laugh.  “What?” he asks, putting his hand to his forehead.  “How much paint did you have on the roller that a huge glob fell onto you? And how did you not feel that?” I say, still laughing.  “Find that funny, do you?” he says with a wicked gleam in his eye as he takes a step forward.  “Oh no. Don’t you dare!” I exclaim, moving back.  “What? I just want you to help me get it off.” He places a small paintbrush near the can of paint. “I don’t believe you,” I say, moving slowly away from him.  A huge grin breaks out on his face at the same time he lunges towards me. I let out a girly squeal as he grabs me and runs a paint coated finger across my cheek, under my eye.  “You have a streak of paint on your face,” he announces.  I pull away from him, my mouth open in shock. “I can’t believe you just did that,” I say, amusement clear in my voice.  I step past him and towards the paint can. Dipping my forefinger in the thick color, I turn around to look at him.  “I think we’re even,” he says, looking around the room for an escape route.  I wipe my finger across the skin under my other eye, and put my hands on my hips. “Fine. I’ll just finish painting your wall.”  Turning around, I bend down to pour some more paint into the tray. I can hear his slow and cautious steps coming towards me.  “So, we’re good?” he asks.  “Yep. Now, come help me.”  He bends down next to me and as soon as he does, I dip my hand into the paint, coating only my palm, and quickly touch his face and run it down his neck.  I’m up and running instantly.  “Oh, you’re gonna get it!” he calls.  “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” I screech, not knowing where to run.  I go towards the bathroom, laughing the hardest I have in a long time. Evan is behind me and turning me towards him with a pull on my arm. He then puts his own paint covered hand on my cheek.  As we stand in the dim hallway, our bodies touching and chests heaving, I look into his honey brown eyes, and then to his mouth. Our laughter dissipates into a silent staring contest. His lips are perfectly proportioned, both almost the same size. Not too full, but not too thin.  Feeling a little uncomfortable with where my mind is taking me, I speak up. “I guess we’re even now.” My voice is husky as I speak the words.  Those perfect lips quirk up on the side. “I guess so.”

Lori's 5+ Star review
This is the first book of Isabel Lucero's and it was a super great read. I loved it. My best friend recently lost her husband of 27 years to cancer but some of the things that are said to Phoenix by Carol and the counselors is exactly what may need to be said down the road a ways to my bestie. So reading this book may help me help her down the road. I am looking forward to reading more from Isabel

Synopsis:

I’m an asshole.

I got no shame in admitting it, hell my wife knew that first hand after we worked together the first time. It isn’t like I tried to be this candy ass punk of a douche to sweep her off her feet. Why would I waste my fucking time with that bullshit? When I can be a complete asshole and get her on her back.

Crude?

Yeah, something like that. But in the end I don’t give a shit, I got her. Now I just have to figure out how to get her to fall in love with me and to actually give this marriage of ours a shot. If for no other reason than at least for our daughter Emmy.

Excerpt:
Nothing Ever Lasts
(Unedited)

Yanking the door to the first floor open I scan the immediate area but see no sign of Kailee, I move slowly now due to my falling or no sliding down a flight of stairs. Finally spotting her in the common area where the hotel is serving breakfast for all the hotel guests. She’s sitting with a handful of other authors, all smiles and giggles.

Hardening my features I make my way over to her and stop once I’m at her table glaring down at her. After clearing my throat she finally looks up at me and I have the pleasure of watching her eyes widen slightly before she stands up and tells her friends bye. I don’t say a word as I follow her out of the room, and down the hall. I catch up to her quickly grabbing her by the elbow and lead her into the gym I look around quickly making sure its empty before pushing her up against the door as I lean into her body.

“Thank you for the bottle of water and pain killers,” I whisper as I press my forehead to hers.

“You’re welcome,” she whispers back as I feel her body relax.

I raise my left hand and cup her cheek as my right presses against her hip keeping her from moving. Slowly I tilt my head and attempt to press my lips to hers only to hit her cheek instead.

“Uh, I don’t think so. You hollered at me and cussed me out last night, then you told me to get on your dick and ride you,” she says as she shoves me in the chest.

Now I could do one of two things here. I could apologize and suck it up or I could continue being the asshole I am.

 Lori's 5+ star review

This seemed like a fairy tale from the beginning, the hero saves the girl.  but them the girl moves away no to be heard from again-well until 18 years later when the hero runs into the girl in his town. I loved this story of David and Grace. I laughed, cried, laughed and cried some more. Melissa Collins has a knack for writing fantabulous books and this one is no different!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream. Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.
